Documentary Film – Vanilla Harvesting in Madagascar
We traveled deep into the wild jungles of Madagascar to produce a captivating documentary about the intricate process of vanilla harvesting. The film sheds light on the journey of vanilla from its origins in Madagascar to its use by European companies in the production chain.
Filming took place not only in Madagascar but also in Switzerland and the UK, where we explored the role of these companies in the global vanilla trade. The documentary captures the complexity of the vanilla industry, from the labor-intensive harvesting process in the jungle to the sophisticated markets where this valuable product is traded.
Challenges & Approach
Our goal was to authentically document the journey of vanilla, focusing on the people and processes involved at each step. In Madagascar, we ventured into remote, dense forests to film the local farmers at work. The European leg of the documentary explored how companies in Switzerland and the UK contribute to the global vanilla market, giving viewers a comprehensive understanding of the entire production chain.
The Result
The documentary offers a rare glimpse into the world of vanilla production, showcasing the dedication and effort behind one of the world’s most sought-after spices. The project received critical acclaim for its storytelling and cinematic portrayal of both the natural and commercial aspects of the vanilla industry.
